Jaguar CEO Points To Battery Supply For Slow I-Pace Sales

Jaguar CEO 指出 I-Pace 銷量受限於電池供應問題

JLR head says EV take rates will also depend on prices before they're widely
accepted

While the Jaguar I-Pace has garnered a lot of attention from critics and
awards, it hasn't been exactly tearing up sales charts in many markets. But
the CEO of its parent company said in a recent interview he isn't worried
about that. It's battery supply and prices that are to blame.

雖然Jaguar I-Pace 贏得了許多大獎和車評的關注,但它在很多市場中並沒有完

Jaguar Land Rover CEO Dr. Ralf Speth told Automotive News Europe that the
I-Pace is, in fact, in demand around the world. He points to Germany,
especially, where demand outpaces supply.

JLR CEO Dr. Ralf Speth 告訴媒體,事實上I-Pace 在世界各地的市場都有需求,
尤其是供不應求的德國市場。

"When it comes to electric vehicles, the question isn’t how many cars I can
build but rather how many batteries I can buy," Speth said in the interview.

"談到電動車時,問題不在於我可以建造多少輛車,而是我能夠買到多少電池"
Speth 在採訪時這樣說。

Battery supply is hardly a new problem for automakers getting into the EV
game. Even Tesla with its Gigafactory has pointed to slower-than-expected
production there as the culprit for missed production targets of its Model 3.
But it's a problem that is only expected to grow as more EV models hit the
market.

對於想要造電動車的車廠們而言,電池供應並不是一個新問題。就連有著自己的
Gigafactory 的Tesla 也說那裡的(電池)生產是Model 3 錯過其生產目標的罪魁
禍首。隨著越來越多電動車進入汽車市場,這個問題預計會越來越嚴重。

Speth pointed to that and charging infrastructure hurdles that are keeping
electric vehicles, "for people with deep pockets," for the most part. The
I-Pace certainly skews to the higher end of Jaguar's current lineup and it
doesn't sound like the company is in any place to change that soon, as he
predicts battery prices to rise in the coming years due to demand.

Speth 也指出,充電設施的這項門檻也限制了目前大都只有口袋深的人才買電動
車,所以I-Pace 在目前Jaguar 的車款中當然會偏向於高端,且因他預期未來電
池價格會因為需求而上漲,所以公司不會很快地改變這項(定價)策略。

Jaguar Land Rover is also banking on higher-margin EVs because of the $4
billion write-down of the company and general belt-tightening across the
company. But it wouldn't hurt if the I-Pace were selling a bit more strongly,
especially since it had a months-long head start over models such as the Audi
E-Tron and upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQC – which will probably make its life
harder.

去年就曾發生過,電池供應商LG 因為電池需求大過其產能,而向長久以來的夥

伴Audi 提出了電池要漲價10% 的要求。電池供應不足也連帶使得Audi e-tron

必須要下修年產量,德國政府也知道對於發展電動車來說,電池供應是一項很大

的瓶頸,所以也加緊投資與補貼電動車電池的產業發展。Tesla 很早就預期到會

有這種事情發生,所以就算是籌資、貸款,也要砸錢建立屬於自己的電池工廠。

不管是現在還是未來,電池供應來源絕大多數都是來自於中日韓企業。像JLR、

德國VW、雙B等這些德國車廠未來也會相當依賴這些電池供應商來供應電池。或

許等哪天歐洲車廠們在電池供應這件事情上遭遇到嚴重挫折後,也會想要建立屬

於自己的電池工廠。
